It goes without saying that Gong Li’s crazy gorgeous and enormously talented too. The actress, who turns 56 this year (we know, we can’t believe it either), has largely stayed out of the limelight the past few years, which is probably why this Chinese netizen looked to the past when searching for pictures of the actress to post on Weibo. And boy, did these pictures create a buzz.

According to said netizen, they’d found a series of pictures Gong Li had taken 29 years ago, as part of a magazine shoot celebrating the success of the 1991 Zhang Yimou-directed hit, Raise the Red Lantern. The classic film was nominated for a Best International Feature Film Oscar and Gong Li’s virtuoso performance also bagged her the Hundred Flowers Award for Best Actress.

But enough about Raise the Red Lantern. The Internet was absolutely captivated by Gong Li in these pictures, with the then 27-year-old working it for the camera in a red knit dress with flowers embroidered on it.

“She looked just a like a princess then, and she’s a queen now,” one netizen gushed, while another simply commented: “I love her figure”.

Others noted that young Gong Li really, really resembles Chinese actress Liu Yifei. The two actress had recently worked together for the live-action adaptation of Mulan.
