Mothers always nag at their kids to chew their food properly, and it looks like Chinese singer-actress Ju Jingyi took that advice very, very seriously.

Recently, the former SNH48 member did a live stream of herself not doing much aside from munching on a bun, talking, and washing her face. “I haven’t gone to bed, so I decided to come here since I have nothing better to do,” she chuckled.

However, the seemingly bo liao video fascinated her followers, who noticed that she spent an unusually long time just to consume a single bite of bread — around 37 seconds, to be exact. Some also counted the number times she chewed, which was 32.

Many netizens quickly came to the conclusion that this was a way for Jingyi to stop herself from eating too much and gaining weight. The 25-year-old once revealed that she weighs only 38.5kg, but clarified that it is because she is small-boned.

Comments from netizens include “Now I know why I’m fat”, “There’s a reason female celebrities are able to maintain their bodies”, and “As someone who wolfs down my food, I am unworthy of a good body”. One also did an experiment by copying Jingyi, only to discover that the piece of bread had completely disappeared before they could get to 32 chews.

There were also a handful of unimpressed folks who accused Jingyi of being “pretentious” or, worse, speculated that she might be suffering from dental problems.

Jingyi found fame as a member of Chinese girl group SNH48, which she left to pursue a solo career after “graduating” in 2017. She has been dubbed as a “once-in-4,000-years idol” by fans and “China’s greatest beauty in 4,000 years” by the Japanese media, which was a controversial claim for obvious reasons.
