Hongkong actor Gallen Lo just can't seem to catch a break lately.

He had a lacklustre first live stream session (especially when other stars are thriving on the platform) last June and then in November, he was rumoured to be suffering from cancer after he was spotted at a treatment centre. Gallen later denied the rumours and said he was there to visit a friend.

This time, he has made headlines again for yet another not so great reason.

Recently, new photos of Gallen on stage at a mall with only a handful of people watching him went viral on Weibo, leading many netizens to wonder about the state of the 58-year-old's career.

One netizen wrote, “The number of audience members is really sad. I think our school’s talent show would draw more people. What’s going on?”

Netizens then compared Gallen’s current situation to his heyday when he “couldn’t go anywhere without being mobbed by fans”.

Gallen was once considered one of the biggest actors in Hongkong, winning TVB's Best Actor Award three times ─ he ties with Roger Kwok and Wayne Lai for most number of wins.

After winning his last Best Actor trophy in 2002, he decided to pursue a career in China. While he used to get cast in leading roles there, he is no longer as in demand these days and has been relegated to supporting roles.

After seeing the lukewarm response at Gallen's recent mall appearance, netizens are calling him a has-been and have been asking him to “go back to TVB”.

However, some netizens claim that Gallen would probably earn more from doing such roadshows for a year than filming a decade’s worth of TVB dramas.
