TVB actor Benjamin Yuen just can’t seem to catch a break.

The 39-year-old, who is no stranger to being a victim of unsavoury name-calling, became the target of netizens again after his appearance at the recent TVB Anniversary Awards.

Netizens pointed out how the 39-year-old, who was named Best Host along with his The Pakho Ben Outdoor Show co-host Pakho Chau, was “out of shape”, adding that he had “aged badly” after marrying actress Bowie Cheung last November.

There were also netizens, very mean ones, we must say, who even left comments saying that Ben, who won the Mr Hongkong pageant in 2007, “can now can be described as an ugly man” and that “he looks like he had undergone failed plastic surgery”.

One netizen also said that he looks “like a cross between Hongkong actor Louis Yuen and comedian Wong Cho Lam”, you know, two stars who aren't known for their looks.

Benjamin then responded to the comments with a lengthy Instagram post, where he said that he has been busy filming so “it was natural for [him] to look tired” at the awards.

“My physical condition can sometimes be good or bad. I spend hours filming every day and I don’t eat well because I don’t look good on camera if I am fat. It’s really not easy. I only had half a day off to prepare for the awards ceremony. I was tired but I didn’t want to waste the few hours, so I went to work out. The results were not ideal, but I can’t help it. Though you think I am out of shape after marriage and even call me an ugly man, thank you for all your comments and creating a topic about me to de-stress,” he wrote.

He also told netizens to keep the criticism coming. “Please continue to criticise me, continue to say that I live off my wife, continue to call me a gigolo, continue to say that my acting sucks, your criticism will only motivate me further!” he added.

After Benjamin and Bowie tied the knot last year, the actor has been labelled “the husband of a billionaire's daughter” as well as as a guy who married into money by netizens.

While he tries not to take the gossip to heart, he admitted in a previous interview that he can’t help but let the remarks get to him.
