Much has been said and written about Elva Hsiao’s taste in guys. You know, that she likes them cute and younger than her. You just have to go through her list of exes to understand her preferred demographic.

And now that the 40-year-old singer has gone public with her relationship with 24-year-old budding actor Justin Huang, Chinese netizens have decided to bestow her with a new nickname: ‘Fresh Meat Harvester’. ‘Fresh meat’ ’cos her boyfriends have all been young(er) and nubile and ‘Harvester’ ’cos… we don’t think this needs explaining. But yes, that’s what people have been calling her on the Chinese interwebs and it’s not exactly flattering.

Elva has since given an interview where she talked openly about her boyfriend and that nasty nickname. When asked if she’s hurt by that moniker, Elva said: “As a public figure, I know that I will be talked about and there’s some pressure to that. Even if [what they say] is negative, I know it’s something I cannot prevent.

When I chose this line of work, I knew that this is something I should accept and face. But if it’s cyberbullying that’s gone too far or lies that are discussed about me, then I need to stress again that everyone should be responsible for his words and actions. No one deserves to be bullied or hurt intentionally.”

On Justin, Elva said that his family is in the coffee trading business. She added that he doesn’t depend on his family for money and that he is very hardworking. She also said that Justin is into sports and was part of his school’s basketball team when he was studying in Vancouver.

Elva also revealed that Justin had kept her company when she was going through a rough patch in life. He had told her, “I’m a man, so you can rely me”, which moved her deeply. She said she intends to start a family with Justin and will also continue to be a singer.

The topic of Elva’s exes came up during the interview too. Taiwanese actor Kai Ko, who Elva dated for two years, had spoken up for his ex-girlfriend when she got attacked by salty netizens after she revealed that she’s dating Justin.

“Oh Internet, oh Internet, it take a lot of courage to go public with a relationship. If you can give them your blessings, you should give them your blessings. What is there to scold them about? Please be a little more positive!” he wrote on IG stories.

When asked about Kai’s chivalrous message, Elva said: “I really thank him [for saying that!] I also thank all the fans on the Internet who encouraged and cheered for us. I have received [all their blessings]. I’m really thankful to everyone.”
