Netizens Think Chinese Olympic Swimming Champ Zhang Yufei Looks Like South Korean Actress Bae Suzy
Yufei, who’s known as China’s “Butterfly Queen”, is the Internet’s new golden girl.
Chinese swimmer Zhang Yufei, 23, lived up to her title as the country’s “Butterfly Queen” and set an Olympic record when she won gold in the women’s 200m butterfly final at the Tokyo Games on Thursday (Jul 29).
Then, an hour later, she and her teammates went on to score another gold medal — and break a world record — in the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay.
Yufei previously also brought home silver in the women’s 100m butterfly final on Monday (Jul 26).
Her stellar achievements have turned her into China’s new golden girl, but her superb athletic abilities aren’t the only thing the Internet is gushing about.
Netizens and the media both showered praises on Yufei’s girl-next-door beauty, 1.76m-tall height, and sweet smile, which have earned her comparisons to South Korean actress Bae Suzy.
Even Chinese actress Zhang Yuqi is a big fan, once calling Yufei “just awesome, excellent, and capable”, and urging her to “quickly see how beautiful [she] is”.
Yufei placed first in the women’s 200m butterfly final by clocking in an Olympic record time of two minutes and 3.86 seconds, beating Americans Regan Smith and Hali Flickinger.
She only found out she had to swim in the 4x200 freestyle relay after her butterfly race, but she and her team exceeded their own expectations by finishing ahead of the United States and Australia with a world record time of 7 minutes and 40.33 seconds.
