Hongkong actress Adia Chan Chung Ling (she was previously known as Nnadia Chan), has been enjoying a career renaissance after making her TVB comeback in 2016. The 49-year-old, who started out as a singer, is currently appearing on Chinese reality show Cheng Feng Puo Lang De Jie Jie (loosely translated as Sisters Who Make Waves), where 30 female celebrities over 30 years old compete to debut in a five-member girl group. The show premiered last week in China.

1 of 3 Adia with Louis Koo in Cold Blood Warm Heart

In her heyday in the '80s and '90s, Adia was one of TVB's top actresses. She was best known for dramas such as Cold Blood Warm Heart and Instinct as well as for starring opposite Jacky Cheung in the musical Snow.Wolf.Lake. She left TVB in 2006 to develop her career in China.

Right about then was also when her personal life came crashing down. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and Adia revealed in previous interviews that she was cheated of her entire savings by her good friend and manager. Penniless and without a roof over her head, she had to sleep on the streets and was driven into depression.

2 of 3 Adia and her husband Zhang Duo

When she met husband, Chinese actor Zhang Duo, on the set of 2006 Chinese drama Blood Is Not Cold, Adia was at the lowest point of her life. She could not afford surgery for her condition and that same year, her dad passed away. She was so devastated that she thought of ending her life.

Fortunately, Zhang Duo was by her side and supported her throughout the ordeal. Though he's nine years her junior, the actor was matured beyond his years and wasn’t bothered by their age gap. He took care of Adia so she could focus on her recovery, and she credits him for pulling her out of depression.

3 of 3 Adia announced plans to release a new album last year

The pair dated for five years before tying the knot in 2011. Thereafter, she gradually faded out of the limelight to focus on her business ventures. She made her music comeback last year and announced plans for a new album and concert.
