Is drinking bubble tea her secret to everlasting beauty?
Former Taiwanese actress Joey Wong, who was one of Asian cinema’s most popular screen goddesses before her retirement in 2004, is known for her ageless beauty.
Still, netizens can’t help but marvel whenever they catch a glimpse of the star looking like a regular drinker from the fountain of youth, or in this case, bubble tea.
Recently, the 53-year-old, who is best known for playing female ghost Nie Xiaoqian in the classic 1987 film A Chinese Ghost Story, was spotted waiting in line in a bubble tea store in Vancouver, where she has been living since her retirement. Though she was wearing a mask, fans instantly recognised Joey from her signature long, flowy tresses and alluring eyes , as claimed by Mirror Weekly.
According to a fan, who shared some paparazzi-like pics of Joey on social media, the former actress “still looks girlish, her hair is gorgeous, and her voice is very gentle”. The fan added that she didn’t dare approach Joey for photos so she snapped them on the sly.
Although the pics were a little blurry, Joey’s youthful and elegant beauty drew compliments from netizens. “[Her looks are] so distinctive, it has to be her,” one netizen gushed, while another said she looks just like she did 20 years ago.
And then there were others who were surprised that their “goddess likes to drink bubble tea”. Maybe they think BBT only appeals to young people?
Last month, Joey also caused quite a buzz online after she was spotted on the streets chatting with a guy friend who looked like her ex, Taiwanese singer Chyi Chin, whom she had an on-off relationship for 16 years.
According to an eavesdropping fan, the pair were discussing about housing matters and Joey spoke with a Taiwan accent. Although the fan only saw her from the back, she noted that Joey appeared to have put on weight, but looked as goddess-like as ever.
Joey and Chyi Chin, 60, were one of Asian showbiz's most famous celebrity couples in the '80s and '90s. He is now married to Chinese singer Sun Liya and they have two kids.
