Rain & Kim Tae Hee Are Korea’s Richest Celeb Real Estate Moguls With S$98mil Worth Of Properties
Money doesn't grow on trees, but it's definitely there in real estate.
For many celebrities, investing in property is a lucrative way to make their money work for them, with many racking up and renting out properties over the years.
Last Friday (Oct 30), Korean entertainment news show Entertainment Weekly Live revealed the top K-celeb real estate moguls who have been making a killing on the property market.
Topping the list are power couple Rain, 38, and Kim Tae Hee, 40, who own a combined 81.4bil won (S$98mil) worth of real estate.
Astute real estate investors in their own right, the couple saw their net worth jump when they tied the knot in 2017, making them Korea’s wealthiest showbiz couple.
According to the report, the pair jointly own 42bil won (S$51mil) worth of properties in Seoul and also have a 2.4bil won (S$2.73mil) home in California.
Before they married, Tae Hee already owned three commercial buildings in Gangnam worth a total of 13.2bil won (S$16mil), which generate over 60mil won (S$72.3K) in monthly rental income alone.
Rain, on the other hand, has a US$5.3mil (S$7.23mil)) villa and a US$21.4mil (S$29.3mil) shopping centre in Cheongdam.
Coming in second is actor Kwon Sang Woo. The star, who shot to fame with 2003’s Stairway To Heaven, revealed in past interviews that his family was not well to do when he was a kid, so he longed to have his own home since a young age.
Ever since he started earning his own keep, he has been keeping tabs on the property market and investing in real estate. He now reportedly owns 78.2bil (S$94mil) won worth of real estate.
In 2013, Sang Woo bought a seven-storey building in Bundang-gu, a populous district in Seoul, for S$24mil. He then named the building Rookie 1129, after his son Ruk Hee and his mum’s birthday.
Closing in on Sang-woo is actress Jun Ji-hyun, who is best known for her hit movie My Sassy Girl as well as 2013 drama My Love From The Star.
According to reports, the 39-year-old owns 75.5bil won (S$91mil) worth of properties in the affluent neighbourhoods of Samseong-dong and Nonhyeon-dong, which she bought in cash.
Despite this, she was called stingy by netizens earlier this year for only giving her tenants, who were hit hard by the COVID-19 outbreak, a 10 per cent cut in rent.
In fourth and fifth place are actors Song Seung Heon and Jang Geun Suk with 69.2bil won (S$83mil) and 55bil (S$66mil) worth of real estate respectively, followed by former basketball player and variety show star Seo Jang Hoon with 46.5bil won (S$56mil).
Taking the seventh and eighth spot are actors Ha Jung Woo with 46.5bil won (S$56mil), and best friends Jung Woo Sung and Lee Jung Jae, who own a combined 45bil won (S$54mil) worth of real estate.
Rounding up the list are actor Jang Dong Gun and his wife Ko So Young with a combined 43.7bil won (S$53mil) worth of real estate holdings, and singer PSY with a 40bil won (S$48mil) real estate fortune.
