Why is there a rumour circulating online that Rainie Yang doesn't shower daily?

It all started when behind-the-scenes clips of Rainie training for her Sisters Who Make Waves 2 performance were posted on social media. In the vid, netizens commented that 36-year-old looked a tad dishevelled, which led them to joke about Rainie “not washing her hair .

Netizens then dug up instances of Rainie complaining about “not liking to wash [her] hair” in her previous vlogs, including the time she asked her fans while she was quarantined in a Taiwan: “Do you guys shower if you don’t leave the house?”

For some reason, a number of netizens then came to the conclusion that Rainie doesn’t shower daily, and started criticising her for not taking care of her personal hygiene, especially during the pandemic.

The talk about how often she showers got so intense that even the singer's mum heard about it, which lead Rainie to release a statement to clarify that she, yes, does shower every day.

“I shower daily, and even if I don’t, what does that got to do with you? It’s true that I don’t wash my hair every day, but I only mentioned it in the past as a joke. But now, my mum has been affected by these rumours, so I decided to clarify this once and for all. Stop saying that I don’t shower. I feel super uncomfortable if I skip my daily bath. Thank you.”
