Yup, it’s official. Rainie Yang and Li Ronghao are married. After the pair were photographed at a government building where couples in China go to register their marriages on Tuesday, and then offering non-committal statements that hinted that the rumour that they were there to collect their marriage license is true, the newlyweds have finally spoken. Well, bride-to-be Rainie, to be exact.

Today (Sep 19) Rainie, 35, attended an event where she had no choice but to answer questions regarding her current marital status. The typically frank singer said: “We collected our marriage license two days ago, we’ve been dating for quite a long time already and we had to prepare a lot of documents [to get officially married]. So we found a day when we’re both free and we just went ahead with it.”

Earlier in the day, Rainie had posted on her socials the photos she and Ronghao, 35, took for their official marriage document.

As for getting photographed on the sly by a nosy netizen when they were registering their marriage, Rainie said she knew someone was taking their pics and she had tried to stop that person. “I thought he deleted all the pics but turns out, he kept some,” she sighed. Rainie added that she has always been low-key when it comes to her personal affairs and that she had no intention of going public with her relationship with Ronghao. While she knows that there are people who would think that she’s using her marriage to draw attention to the event she’s at but she decided to throw caution to the wind and talk about because getting married is good news.

The singer was also asked about where she would be living from now on — she’s lives in Taipei while Ronghao calls Beijing home — and she said there are no plans to change the status quo. She also added that she is in no hurry to be a mum.

On the topic of their impending wedding celebration, Rainie let on that “it would not be in Taipei or Beijing”. “We haven’t made any plans yet. We both have very few relatives. He only has his mum and so he hopes everything will be simple. You won’t get to see ‘the wedding of the century’, it will be low-key.”

She does have a few conditions when it comes to her upcoming nuptials though: no island wedding, no throwing of the bridal bouquet and no page boys and girls. Also, don’t expect to see any bridesmaids and groomsmen. Rainie then threw some friendly shade at her pal Wilber Pan, who has publicly said that he would love to be part of her wedding party. “Wilber Pan, you can forget about it!” she laughed.
