No one was more surprised than Taiwanese singer Rainie Yang when her boyfriend of four years, Chinese singer Li Ronghao, popped the question on his 34th birthday last month. Rainie, 35, recently spilled the details of the proposal when she met the press in Beijing.

According to Rainie, the media had gotten the timeline of the proposal wrong. While it was reported that the photo she had posted of the two of them (see above) was taken after Ronghao popped the question, it was actually the other way around. Rainie said that she and a few friends were out at sea celebrating Ronghao's birthday and that she had asked him for his opinion on the photo. Then immediately after posting the pic, Ronghao popped the question, taking her by surprise.

Rainie gushed that she didn't have a single clue that he was going to ask her to marry him, and that she was very impressed by how he had managed to keep it a secret. As for how she reacted at that moment, Rainie blushed and said: I bawled, and I screamed and cried at the same time.

Rainie also let on that her fiancé had ticked all the boxes for a proper marriage proposal, and that includes saying the words, Will you marry me? .

“It was an emotional day,” she said, adding that the proposal had shown how attentive Ronghao is. She revealed that there were four cameras surrounding her and recording the entire proposal. And that's because she had once mentioned at her concert that if she ever gets proposed to, her friends must be around and the entire affair has to be recorded. Pity then that she looked like a mad woman during the proposal.

But I'm not going to be selfish, and will definitely show everyone the video one day, she promised.

As for her huge, sparkly wedding ring, she said that she likes its shape because it has edges and rounded corners, which is just like her personality. However, the ring is a tad too big, which isn't a fault of Ronghao's. Turns out, that's the smallest possible ring size available at the jeweller's. My fingers are too small, and when I attend awards shows, jewellers always have a headache finding rings small enough for me, she said.

Though Rainie had initial plans to resize the ring, she was stopped by her mother who thought it was unnecessary. [She told me that the ring] comes from his heart. I like the shape of the ring he chose. He knows me very well,” Rainie beamed.

Speaking about her mother, Rainie also told the media that her mum wasn’t present when the proposal happened. The singer had called her right after to tell her the good news but her mum didn't pick up 'cos she was… sleeping.

“My mum was so emotional and that's because she was very angry that she wasn’t invited [to the proposal],” Rainie laughed. “But I told her “Your mouth’s too big to keep a secret!” She then teased her mum for being as concerned about her life as her fans. But yeah, getting married is a huge thing, no wonder she’s angry, she conceded.

The couple has no plans on when or where they will hold their wedding. “I have tons of ideas for my concert and album, but none for my wedding yet,” she divulged. “It’s difficult for me, especially since I’ve worn so many wedding dresses before. I have to plan this well. But currently, my mind is occupied with my new album.”

As for when they will have kids, Rainie chuckled: “We’ll wait until my husband puts out his 11th album first!” FYI: Ronghao has released only five albums to date.
