Sammi Cheng Likens Her Husband's Cheating Scandal To A Fall, Says It's "Not A Bad Thing"
“If you change for the better, you’ll find that it’s all worth it on hindsight, she reasoned.
On June 15, Hongkong singer-actor Andy Hui staged his return to showbiz after going on a hiatus following his cheating scandal last year. A few days later on June 18, Andy’s wife, pop diva Sammi Cheng gave her very first interview addressing Andy’s cheating on Carol Cheng's talkshow, Do Did Eat.
The 47-year-old, who was cheerful and upbeat during the interview, revealed that she’s fully supportive of Andy’s decision to return to work.
“He has to take the first step at some point, to face and bear his own burdens, to face the public and the world. It’s inevitable, no matter when he chooses to take the step,” she said.
While Andy didn’t exactly set a date to return to work, music show Chill Club’s invitation came at an opportune moment, which was why he agreed to appear on the show.
“He did ask for my opinion first, but in the end, he has to face this matter himself, not me. I don’t know how emotionally prepared he is, but the whole thing happened over a year ago, [so] if he thinks he’s prepared, then I’ll support him,” Sammi said, adding that she had watched the interview he gave to the media before his appearance on Chill Club.
Sammi said Andy looked “natural and sincere”, and shared that her husband became more relaxed after meeting the media.
“It's really not easy to face yourself, and so many people at the same time, it’s really a huge psychological hurdle. I’m happy for him ‘cos he has successfully crossed it,” mused Sammi.
When asked if their relationship has improved over the course of the year, Sammi said: “[Rather than] say if there’s been any drastic improvements, [what’s important] is that we faced the music together, instead of pushing him to do it alone. [We’re a] couple, if either one of us has a problem, we have to bear the burden together, [this is] one of the most important stages in a marriage or a relationship.”
She added that this whole ordeal has allowed her to become more mature, and that she has seen changes in Andy.
“Frankly speaking, it’s not a bad thing to fall down… at a certain point, you’ll fall and make a mistake, and it’ll allow you to re-examine yourself. Of course, the actual fall will hurt, and you’ll feel miserable, but if you change for the better, you’ll find that it’s all worth it on hindsight,” she said.
