Selina Jen Looks Back On The 2010 On-Set Explosion That Left Her Badly Burnt
She says she has learned how to live with it.
It’s hard to believe that it has been 10 years since Taiwanese singer-actress Selina Jen was injured in a freak explosion that happened while she was filming Chinese drama I Have A Date With Spring in Shanghai. The S.H.E member suffered third-degree burns on 50 per cent of her body, and her road to recovery has been a long and difficult one.
Not only did she have to deal with the physical pain but also emotional scars.
On the debut episode of the second season of Chinese docu-series Middle Me, which aired on Wednesday (Jul 22), the 38-year-old looked back on her life and shared how she dealt with the accident. When asked how she managed to move on from the trauma of the accident, she said: “I don’t think there is a need to leave it all behind. I only need to learn how to live with it.”
When talking about the joy of being 38, she revealed that she cares more about herself now, and that “it is more difficult to stay happy than to stay strong.”
So what would she say to her future self 10 years from now? “You are really amazing to have lived so well. You are so beautiful now. You are really my idol.”
Sharing a snippet of the show on her Weibo account yesterday, Selina wrote: “I’ve changed a lot over the past 10 years, but it is in my nature to be happy and self-content. Thank you to everyone who has accompanied and supported me the past 10 years. I sincerely wish that regardless of how old you are, you will be blessed and happy.
Selina’s optimism has touched and inspired netizens, who couldn’t help but heap praise on the star. They pointed out that though she has been through so many setbacks, her smile is unwavering and her attitude towards family, her growth and life is worth looking up to. They also remarked that she is the strongest person they have ever seen.
Middle Me, which gives viewers a look into the lives of women around the age of 30, will also feature celebrity guests Hannah Quinlivan, 27, and Chinese actress Ma Yili, 44.
