These days Hongkong star Nicholas Tse is known more for his culinary skills than he is for his singing or acting.

The 39-year-old first made waves in the F&B world thanks to his 2014 cooking-travel show, Chef Nic, which kickstarted his bakery business, his own brand of kitchen equipment and two cookie lines.

In 2016, he was the first recipient of the Friend of Michelin, an award given to Michelin-star-worthy non-professional chefs. Despite his successes, there are some netizens who are still doubtful about his cooking abilities and they've thrown shade at him, saying that he “doesn’t walk the talk”.

1 of 3 Full concentration

There are reasons for their skepticism. After all, Nic has a history of getting into trouble with his food products. Just last year, Nic’s cookies were found to contain five times more sugar than what its packaging had stated, and the 'Chef Nic' line was swiftly taken off the shelves. Less than six months later, cancer-causing substances were reportedly discovered in another range of his cookies.

However, Nic’s paying no attention to his haters.

2 of 3 Cooking is an art

“Some people like to make comments but their comments are not constructive at all. Like, who cares? Even my friends criticise me, but they’re unbiased,” Nic confessed, adding that he's used to hearing harsh remarks about his cooking.

And he’s correct. Because you simply can’t please everyone.

“Even if my cooking scores 120 points, I still can’t please the world. Even professional chefs get criticised. There is no right or wrong flavour, just like music,” he shrugged.

3 of 3 He's a Virgo, so he's a perfectionist

Of course, Nic continues to have his supporters who hope that he will one day open a restaurant. But their dreams were dashed when Nicholas rejected the idea.

“I don’t think [I will be opening a restaurant]. I don’t want to meet people too much. Because I’m a Virgo, I’m a perfectionist. If I open a restaurant, I would spend so much time in there that I wouldn’t have time to do anything else,” he explained.
