Song Joong Ki is reportedly balding. His father is now cooping himself up at home. His brother posts a cryptic Insta-story. Seems like the Song-Song divorce has taken a toll on the star’s family. And, boy, it doesn’t look good.

When Song Joong Ki announced that he and Song Hye Kyo would be getting a divorce less than two years after their fairytale wedding, it sent shockwaves through the industry and among fans. The 33-year-old actor didn’t reveal the reason for the split, and would only say via a statement that he “hope[s] to complete the divorce amicably”. Meanwhile, the 37-year-old actress claimed that they were parting ways due to “differences in personalities”. What we didn’t know until now was how the Descendants of the Sun co-stars’ loved ones were taking to it. Until now.

According to Korean news reports, Joong Ki’s older brother, Song Seung Ki, had posted an idiom in Chinese (he’d studied in Beijing for eight years) on his Instastories recently — a Chinese phrase which means “to cover up”. Netizens were left wondering if the post had anything to do with Hye Kyo, with some fans even suspecting that Seung Ki is implying that Hye Kyo and her management are trying to hide the truth behind the divorce.

It was previously reported that Joong Ki was the one who initiated the divorce, without any prior discussion with his soon-to-be ex-wife. Since then, Joong Ki has come under fire for his part in the divorce.

Soon after the announcement, Seung Ki not only unfollowed his sister-in-law, but also deleted his Instagram posts with Hye Kyo in it. On top of that, he’d even ‘liked’ this comment from a fan: “When a family faces a crisis, their parents should give their kids good advice and be doubtful of what looks like a perfect relationship”.

All this animosity might’ve stemmed from earlier on, even before the divorce announcement was made public. An unnamed source close to the couple claimed on a Korean TV broadcast that the actress seldom attended any of Joong Ki’s family events — she was reportedly absent from family weddings, funerals and other important occasions, and Joong Ki was often put in an awkward spot when relatives asked about her whereabouts.

However, Seung Ki isn’t the only sad Song in this whole brouhaha.

Joong Ki’s father, who wasn’t aware about the divorce and only discovered it via news reports (yes, like you and me), is apparently refusing to leave his house.

“Song Joong Ki’s dad seemed jovial the day before the announcement. But ever since the news broke out, he hasn’t been in contact with anyone,” according to a worried friend.

Song Senior had been known to be fond of the couple, frequently texting his friends to promote their dramas. In one of his texts which has since gone viral, he referred to Hye Kyo as “our beautiful daughter-in-law”, and wrote that she had worked very hard for her drama.

But SJK, the man in the eye of the media maelstrom, has come under scrutiny now… for his hair loss. Come again? Not only is Joong Ki leading the search rankings, no thanks to his divorce, the actor is now in the news for his alleged balding problems.

According to Koreaboo, an anonymous insider claimed that the star “was having a hard time due to personal stress and experiencing drastic hair loss”. The source also mentioned that production staff working with Joong Ki noticed the thinning and were worried about his marital woes.

“It must have been marriage issues that caused his hair loss!” a netizen commented. “How stressed out he was with such serious hair loss? questioned another.

However, some think it’s just genetic. One of the photos in 2013 suggests that Joong Ki already had thinning hair prior to their wedding, while he was in the military (above).

Still, there are fans who are standing by their idol, through thick and thinning hair. “Hair loss in men is very common. Is this a big deal? No!” one refuted. Meanwhile another fan reasoned: “It could just be genetics. Doesn't always have to do with stress.”
