Street Vendor Goes Viral For Looking Like Jay Chou; Says He Doesn’t Want To Be Famous
It’s kinda too late for that now.
Say hello to the latest celebrity doppelgänger (see more here, here, here, and here). Recently, a netizen visited a street stall selling crepes in Hebei, China and realised that the owner looked remarkably like Mandopop king Jay Chou, especially from the side. Naturally, they took a video and posted it online, where it quickly went viral.
After taking a look at the clips, we can see why.
What’s more, fans pointed out an amusing coincidence with the lyrics of Jay’s song ‘Waiting for You’, where there's a line about learning how to — wait for it — make crepes. Yes, precisely what his lookalike is hawking. You seriously can’t make this up.
On Sunday (Dec 6), some journos tracked down the street vendor, who is known as Mr. Bai, for an interview. They reported that the stall was surrounded by people filming him with their phones, prompting someone to comment, “He’ll never have to worry about not being able to sell his crepes.”
Despite the increased attention and business, Mr. Bai remained humble and shared that he has never once thought of associating himself with Jay. He added that he “has no talent” (um, doesn’t crepe making count?) and certainly does not wish to become famous on the internet... although it’s clearly kinda too late for that now. All he wants to do is “sell a few more crepes every day”.
Mr. Bai also revealed that he has set up his stall in the same spot for the past six years, and works every day from 7am to 2pm to support his family of five. Well, given the recent surge in customers thanks to his famous ‘twin’, we won’t be surprised if he gets to close his stall a little earlier these days.
