Chinese actress Sun Li has come a long, long way since being crowned as Star Search 2001’s Shanghai female champ (a title she shared with former Ch 8 actress Le Yao). After returning to her home country, she went on to carve out a successful career, even earning herself the title of China’s “Queen of Television”.
Recently, the 37-year-old made her small screen comeback for the first time in three years, playing a real estate agent in I Will Find You a Better Home, a remake of Japanese drama Your Home is My Business. On February 26, she took to Weibo to share an interesting little piece of trivia: the actress who plays the younger version of her character in the show is actually her half-sister, Sun Yan.
She also shared a wefie of the two of them in the same pose and with the same facial expression. And all we can say is: those Sun genes are strong.
“When I saw that the script required someone to play a young Fang Sijin (her character in the drama), I thought, who would suit the role? It has to be my younger sister Sun Yan!” she wrote.
Netizens soon flooded the comments section with their reactions, marvelling at the similarities between the two women. “Their noses look like they were made from the very same mould,” one observed, while another pointed out that they have the exact same eyes.
According to Chinese reports, Sun Yan is 19 years younger than Sun Li, which means she would be around 18 or 19 years old.
While this is the first time Sun Li has shared photos of Sun Yan, the latter is no stranger to the spotlight. In 2016, netizens managed to uncover Sun Yan’s social media account and began spreading the word about her being Sun Li’s younger sister.
Sun Li later confirmed that they are indeed siblings and said that although they have different mothers, she and Sun Yan are very close. Her parents divorced when she was 12, and her father later remarried and had Sun Yan with his second wife.
Sun Yan is also an actress and once played Sun Li's younger sister in the 2011 mega-hit Empresses in the Palace.
