Taiwanese Media Report That Show Luo Will Lose At Least S$27mil ‘Cos Of His Cheating Scandal
He’s been edited out from television programmes and deleted from advertisements.
Less than a day after Taiwanese singer-actor Show Luo’s ex-girlfriend, Chinese blogger Grace Chow exposed the 40-year-old's cheating ways, Taiwanese media reported that Show was estimated to lose NT$360mil (S$17mil) in appearance fees.
After all, the public had began calling for him to be removed from two popular shows that he was scheduled to appear on as a fixed cast member, Go Fighting! and Produce Camp 2020.
Well, it turns out that the damage done to his wallet is far more extensive. Taiwanese media are now reporting that the singer-actor is looking at a loss of NT$560mil (S$27mil) at the very minimum. Show endorses four different products in China, including a mobile game, a beverage and a watch brand. After news of his cheating hit the press, the different brands have quietly deleted all mention of Show off their socials.
When reached for a comment, an advertising executive had a very practical take on this mess: “If you want to make use of the celebrity’s ability to drive sales, you’ll have to be prepared to bear [the consequences] if their [public image] were to collapse”. The executive also shared that an unnamed brand had paid Chinese singer-actor Sean Xiao to endorse their product, but as the singer’s public image recently took a turn for the worse due to his overzealous fans, they were unable to go ahead with their campaign this year.
While there has been no update regarding Show’s involvement in Produce Camp 2020, which is scheduled to air on May 2, it is rumoured that the show has since edited out all footage involving Show, who was supposed to take on the role of a mentor.
As Chinese singer Wowkie Zhang had temporarily filled in for Show when the first few episodes were filmed, many expected the 36-year-old to continue on as a mentor in Show’s place instead.
However, it is now rumoured that Chinese-Canadian singer-actor Kris Wu will be taking Show’s spot. If the rumours are true, this will be the first time Kris will be working with Chinese singer-actors Lu Han and Huang Zitao since their separate departures from Korean boyband EXO. Kris and Lu Han left in 2014, while Zitao left in 2015.
Similarly, Show did not appear in the latest episode of Go Fighting!, as he was still in self-quarantine in China when the episode was filmed. However, there is no confirmation regarding his involvement in the show as well.
