Taiwanese Star Prince Chiu Was Harassed By Loan Sharks After His Dad Defaulted On His Loans
He says he’s done paying off his dad’s debts.
Taiwanese singer-actor Prince Chiu’s love life might be flourishing, what with his super sweet relationship with Hongkong star Stephy Tang. But the same can't be said about his relationship with his family, his dad in particular.
According to Taiwanese media, the 31-year-old, who used to be a member of Taiwanese boybands Lollipop and JPM, has been repeatedly harassed by loan sharks over the years ‘cos his dad defaulted on the loans he took out. While a few sources reported that Prince’s dad turned to loan sharks ‘cos his business in China had fallen on hard times, some others shared that his debts were actually due to a gambling addiction.
The loan sharks first approached Prince and his younger brother, fellow singer-actor Chris Chiu, two years ago. At that time, the loan sharks allegedly got their underlings to look for Prince at HIM International Music, the record label Prince was signed to at that time.
However, they were unable to get a hold of the star at the company, and they later resorted to other unspecified means to get in contact with him.
Prince was reportedly in disbelief when he first heard that his dad had taken out a loan from the loansharks, as he has been paying off his dad’s debts ever since his showbiz debut 14 years ago.
Unfortunately, his dad’s debts kept snowballing, with Prince coughing up over NT$1mil (S$46,789) over the years to settle those debts. To date, both Prince and Chris still live together in a rented house in Taipei, as most of their income has been used to pay off their dad’s debts.
Now, it seems like both Prince and Chris have had enough. According to reports, the siblings have decided that they simply cannot afford to keep bailing their dad out each time. They've agreed that they’ve more than fulfilled their duty as sons, and will not be paying off any more of his debts in the future.
