How much money would you be willing to lend a friend? TVB actress Mandy Wong, 38, put her BFF Candice Chiu, also 38, in the hot seat with a prank phone call asking this very question.

Mandy, who has her own YouTube channel, recently uploaded a video of her attempting to borrow HK$1mil (S$170K) from Candice. She explained that she wanted to buy a house, but didn’t have enough to pay for the deposit.

When the topic of borrowing money was first brought up, Candice’s immediate reaction was to ask her how much her friend needed. When Mandy responded with the amount, Candice kept silent for a few seconds before saying that she needs time to check how much she’s able to spare.

Mandy then brought up the time they went to France together, and how Candice told her that she’s willing to do anything — including being a surrogate mother — for her best friend. After less than four minutes of persuading, Candice agreed to lending Mandy the full amount. Mandy then burst into laughter while apologising for the prank, thanking her for being such a great friend.

Mandy and Candice first met at the 2007 Miss Hongkong pageant and became inseparable ever since. Candice is said to be from an affluent family — her mum is veteran actress Leung Sui Ling and her father is believed to be running an oil business in Australia. However, she's never addressed the rumours about her family wealth.
