Yoyo Chen’s Ex Boyfriend Says She “Always Has A Black Face” So Her Non-Reaction To Husband Vincent Wong’s Win Was Not Surprising
Guess internet meme lords have her RBF to thank?
Hongkong actress Yoyo Chen made headlines at the TVB Anniversary Awards earlier this month when she reacted to husband Vincent Wong’s Best Actor win and acceptance speech with a blank expression.
Not only did her non-reaction become a trending topic, it was also turned into a meme.
Host Roland Leung and former radio jock Plato Lai, who used to date Yoyo, decided to jump on the bandwagon to give their take on her “black face” on their YouTube channel.
Plato, who is better known as Ah Ghum, said that he “always” saw her black face when they dated 20 years ago so her reaction was not surprising.
“I was with her for so long, around seven years, and I would always see [her black face]. Because she is a Virgo… At that time, we worked on the Miss Hongkong pageant together at the radio station, and because of me, [Roland] used to see her quite often too. In fact, she always had a black face, so this is nothing strange,” revealed Ah Ghum, adding that Yoyo used to give him that look when he did something wrong.
“Virgos need to feel a sense of security, so something must have happened, something very big… that concerns her personal interests that caused her to completely lose her sense of security and confidence in you.”
Roland, who admitted that he had trouble communicating with Yoyo back then, also believes that there’s trouble in Vincent and Yoyo’s marriage.
“Regardless of how bad your relationship is, if your significant other wins an award, you would at least be a little moved or happy,” he reasoned.
However, from his standpoint as a showbiz veteran, he said that Yoyo could have reacted this way to “boost her popularity”.
“She knew that when Vincent thanked her, the camera would pan to her, so she deliberately gave that expression to become a talking point,” he said.
Netizens have since slammed Ah Ghum for using his ex as a talking point for his show.
“It doesn’t matter if you are not famous or popular, but to take advantage of your ex, to speak ill of others, only shows how few good people there are,” wrote one netizen, while another called him “disgusting” for doing so.
One netizen also asked: People change. How can you comment based on what you knew about her 20 years ago? Do you know what she has been through?
Vincent and Yoyo have been plagued with divorce rumours for the longest time and there's also speculation that they've been living separately for a while.
Following his Best Actor win, Vincent won two awards at the 2020 Jade Solid Gold (JSG) Awards but did not thank Yoyo this time around.
