There seems to be no end in sight for the Zhang Heng and Zheng Shuang child abandonment saga with the former couple continuing to engage in mudslinging. The parents of both parties have also joined in, with Zhang Heng’s father refuting Zheng Shuang’s claims that she is seeking custody of the two kids.

Zhang Heng’s father recently spoke to Chinese media outlet NetEase Entertainment, where he revealed what he claims to be a handwritten contract that Zheng Shuang wanted Zhang Heng to sign.

Most of her conditions in the contract were related to money — she wanted him to pay for all costs related to the surrogacy, the documents required for the one-year-olds to fly from the US to China, their plane tickets, fees for their meals and accommodation, as well 1mil yuan (S$205K) as compensation for the mental distress she suffered as a result of the egg extraction process.

She also allegedly asked for all conversations that were exchanged to be permanently deleted, and that the contract be kept confidential.

If any of the demands were not met, Zhang Heng would have to compensate her. It's said that Zhang Heng readily agreed to her demands so she would sign the form that would allow the children to fly to China.

Zhang Heng’s father also released screenshots of a group chat in which Zhang Heng told Zheng Shuang, “I’m tired. Let’s resolve this, even if it’s just for the kids. I’ll bear all of the harsh words (…) How much money do you want? I’ll give you everything that I can within my means. I’ll agree to all 15 of your demands. I love you, but there’s a limit to my love.”

He added that Zheng Shuang’s claims of being unable to see her children are false, as she was never interested in being a part of their lives.

He said: “I tried to contact her on December 22, 2019 but found out that I was blocked [by her] on WeChat. [My son] tried to text her on January 4 to tell her that the children were born, but also found out that he had been blocked (…) Even when we did manage to contact her through other methods, she never asked about the children.”

Another damning piece of evidence that Zhang Heng’s father showed was a screenshot of an email from Zheng Shuang, which asked Zhang Heng to agree to give their children up for adoption.

His father said, “She told him that he had to respond to the original email and agree to the adoption, and that his continued silence would be considered a tacit agreement.”

Regardless of what happens, Zhang Heng’s father added, their family will not abandon the kids and will continue to be responsible for them.

He concluded, “[My son] is very sorry for agreeing to the surrogacy and regrets his immature decision. However, he will definitely be a responsible father and continue to raise the two children with everything that he has.”
