If your New Year’s resolution is to lose weight and get fit, then perhaps these jaw-dropping pictures of a very shredded Kumail Nanjiani will help motivate you.

The 41-year-old Pakistan-born star of HBO’s hit IT comedy Silicon Valley and the Oscar-nominated rom-com The Big Sick recently shared on Instagram two snapshots of his seriously chiselled and muscular physique.

His Thor-rific body is the result spending a year in the gym: He was getting ripped for his role in the upcoming Marvel movie, Eternals. He plays Kingo Sunen, who's from a race of immortal beings who lived on Earth and shaped its history.

Nanjiani stars alongside Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kit Harrington, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridoff, and Don Lee. The movie, directed by Chloe Chao, opens in cinemas Oct 29.

1 of 1 Pumping iron: Kumail Nanjiani spent a year to get this jacked.

But before you decide to hit the gym, Nanjiani, who once lived in Singapore, said he couldn’t have done it without the backing of a major Hollywood studio (hello, Disney!), an army of personal trainers and nutritionists (just five but still), and a catering company.

In his Instagram post, he wrote: “I found out a year ago I was going to be in Marvel’s Eternals and decided I wanted to transform how I looked. I would not have been able to do this if I didn’t have a full year with the best trainers and nutritionists paid for by the biggest studio in the world. I’m glad I look like this, but I also understand why I never did before. It would have been impossible without these resources and time.”

Nanjiani also thanked his wife, Emily, “for putting up with me complaining and talking about only working out and dieting for the last year. I promise I’ll be interesting again someday.”

Apparently, Emily wasn’t the only one Nanjiani bothered. Dave Bautisa, his co-star in the action comedy Stuber, wrote, “Holy good god! I’d say mission accomplished. Way to get after it brother!” To which Nanjiani replied, “Thanks for responding to all my stupid questions about this for a full year.”

Is it just me or does Stuber II sound like a good idea now?

The Eternals opens in cinemas Oct 29, 2020; the final season of Silicon Valley airs Mon, 11am & 11pm on HBO Go and HBO (Singtel TV Ch 420, StarHub Ch 601 & Toggle).
