If your heart says yes to visiting the National Gallery Singapore over and over and over again, but your wallet says no, you’re in luck. There’s free entry to all exhibitions at the Gallery this entire month of August, both for long-term galleries and ongoing exhibitions such as Suddenly Turning Visible: Art & Architecture in Southeast Asia (1969-1989) and the Ng Teng Fong Roof Garden Commission: Cao Fei. Of course, you still need to be mindful of the safe distancing measures during your visit.

While you're there, don't forget to head outside to take in (and take pics of) the ever-changing Gallery facade. While most of the photogenic building will be swathed in red and white, its central veiled canopy will be draped in over 60 rotating artworks by artists in Singapore, all submitted via an open call. It's all part of a massive National Day light-up featuring a dizzying myriad of digital projections on iconic buildings in the Civic District and Bras Basah-Bugis Precinct from now until Aug 30 (read more here).

1 of 1 More free stuff? Yes, please.

Besides free entry for all this month, the Gallery is also doling out free one-year Gallery Insider memberships for Singaporeans and permanent residents, redeemable online at https://www.nationalgallery.sg/support/join/membership. Perks of the annual membership, which usually costs $30 for Singaporeans and PRs, include priority access to certain exhibitions, access to member events and discounts and privileges at F&B outlets in the Gallery. We’re talking 10 per cent off at Yan, Smoke & Mirrors, and Gallery & Co, among others, and 15 per cent off at National Kitchen by Violet Oon. The catch? You’ll have to activate your free membership by visiting the Gallery and presenting the confirmation e-mail you received upon registration.

National Gallery of Singapore is at 1 St Andrew’s Road. Open daily 10am-7pm. More info at https://www.nationalgallery.sg.
