We Got A Tour Inside The World’s First Floating Apple Store, Which Opens Sep 10 At Marina Bay Sands
Are we in a sci-fi movie or what?
The Apple store at Marina Bay Sands is set to open its doors on Sep 10 (Thur) at 10am. You’ve seen plenty of pictures of the exterior of the first Apple store on water in the world, but what’s it like inside the tech giant’s third outpost in Singapore?
8Days.sg got a tour of the latest haven for Apple-philes this morning.
What to expect at the Apple store at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore when it opens Sep 10:
The Apple store at MBS will open its doors on Sep 10 at 10am, but things will be different from your usual Apple store opening. Unlike last July's opening at Jewel Changi Airport, this one's happening in the midst of a pandemic. So of course the tech giant is taking steps to ensure that people can visit the store safely.
Entry to the store on Sep 10 (Thur) will be on an appointment-only basis, and pre-registration is already open on its website (apple.com/sg/marinabaysands).
Customers can choose from available times (slots are 45 minutes each), and each reservation admits one person and is non-transferable. Capacity is limited, so we reckon there’ll still be a bit of a wait to enter the store.
The tech giant calls this its “most ambitious retail project”. We call it the most photo-worthy.
On the outside, the store looks like a floating bubble. On the inside, the futuristic-looking circular space is an architectural sight to behold — it measures 30m in diameter and 70m in height, and comprises 114 pieces of glass and just 10 vertical mullions for structure. There are no walls inside the light-drenched globular space (just plenty of Apple gadgets and even more space for ample safe distancing) so you’ll get 360-degree panoramic views of the waterfront and skyline from wherever you stand on level 1 of the three-storey retail space.
Here’s a closer look at the Apple store in MBS.
Inside Apple Marina Bay Sands
Even the furniture is socially distanced
This isn't a spaceship. Just a very 'grammable lift to take you to B1 and B2 of the store.
The boardroom is reserved for corporate sessions and some Today at Apple events.
However, it's not open to public due to Covid-19. Virtual sessions are currently held instead.
You can enter the store via the mall at B2. This expansive, dramatic long walkway is what greets you when you enter.
Safety first, okay? Hand sanitisers and signs to remind people to keep a safe distance are placed throughout the store.
Photo opps galore.
Apple Store Marina Bay Sands is at B2-06, 2 Bayfront Ave, S018972. More info at https://www.apple.com/sg/retail/marinabaysands/.
