Taiwanese Comedian Xiao Bing Recovers From Same Bacterial Infection That Killed His Older Brother Da Bing 9 Years Ago
The 43-year-old is said to have been gravely ill at one point.
Earlier this year, Taiwanese comedian Xiao Bing shared a worrying update on social media where he talked about how he had developed “weird bruises” on his calves that didn’t hurt at all.
The 43-year-old, whose real name is Yu Junxian, mentioned that he found it “very strange” that he had these bruises because he had not injured himself.
While he didn’t share more about his condition, a friend close to the star shared with Taiwanese media that Xiao Bing grew increasingly concerned about the bruises and so he went for a checkup at a hospital.
There, he was diagnosed with bacteremia, which is the presence of bacteria in a person's blood.
Xiao Bing was said then warded immediately as bacteremia could lead to septic shock and multiple organ failure.
The source also said that Xiao Bing was in critical condition at one point, but he has since made a full recovery and has been discharged from the hospital where was warded for “quite some time”.
The news came as a shock to many Xiao Bing's older brother, comedian Da Bing, died nine years ago after contracting the same disease.
Da Bing, who was 37 when he passed away, was reported to have been so busy with work that he refused to see a doctor despite feeling unwell.
He was unaware that he had bacteremia, which eventually caused an infection in his lungs. Da Bing was then treated at a Beijing hospital, where he died 25 days later from multiple organ failure.
