There’s A New Reality Competition In China Featuring Only Plus-Size Women
They’re competing for a chance to work with one of China's most successful businesswomen.
Now this is one reality competition we can get behind.
Tech company Tencent recently debuted on their streaming platform a new show where plus-size women compete for the opportunity to launch their own business with one of China's most successful businesswomen, Yang Tianzhen, as their partner.
Tianzhen, 36, got her start in showbiz as a celebrity agent and is best known for being the manager of Fan Bingbing, who she still remains close friends today. She is the CEO of media company, Easy Entertainment, and in 2020, launched her own fashion brand, PlusMall, to cater to the plus-sized market.
She is widely lauded as one of the figureheads behind China’s body diversity movement, which makes her the perfect boss for the reality competition, titled Da You Ke Wei De Wo.
The Chinese name of the show is brilliant wordplay, as it draws attention to the participants who have “great prospects in the future” and are plus-sized too.
Each 20-min episode features the women competing in different challenges, from coming up with business proposals, to modelling in a swimwear shoot.
In fact, the episode where the contestants model swimwear has attracted rave reviews from netizens.
When some of the women revealed how nervous they were about appearing in swimwear, which is totally understandable, Tianzhen took the lead by volunteering to be the first model for the shoot.
Bravo, indeed.
Another thing netizens love about Da You Ke Wei De Wo is how devoid it is of the usual cattiness and tension that tends to follow such shows.
Instead, the ladies are seen encouraging and cheering each other on, even though they are technically competitors.
“This show is full of joy, I feel especially relaxed after watching it. The only problem is that the episodes are too short,” one netizen commented.
