Top 40 Most Popular Artistes For Star Awards 2022: Brandon Wong In, Zhang Zetong Out

Last year, we had a whopping 60 celebs vying to get into the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes and Top 10 Most Popular Female artistes rankings, but for Star Awards 2022 (SA2022), the competition is a little less intense as we are back to having 40 hopefuls in the running.

Or is it?

The complete list of the Top 40 Most Popular Male and Female Artistes was unveiled at a virtual press conference this afternoon (Mar 10), so without further ado, here it is:

Like last year, the Top 40 names were identified from a poll of 1,000 people representing an equal breakdown across various age groups in Singapore as conducted by an accredited market research company.

Something is a little different this year — while it was split evenly 50-50 last year, SA2022’s public voting carries more weight in determining the final results with 70 per cent, while the initial poll findings will make up the other 30 per cent. No pressure, of course.

  Returning to the Top 10 race after a decade-long absence is Michelle Chia, whose last nod was in 2012. Ben Yeo and Priscelia Chan are also back in the game after winning, and being nominated respectively in 2017.

  And entering the competition for the very first time is Brandon Wong, who’s been in showbiz since 1995, proving that it’s never too late to accomplish new things in your career.

  Potentially ‘graduating’ from the race and joining the All-Time Favourite (ATF) Artistes hall of fame — if they are to successfully get into the Top 10 on April 24, that is — are Pornsak, Felicia Chin (who sadly missed out on trophy No. 10 last year), and Rebecca Lim, so fans, you know what to do.

  Sadly for Ann Kok, who was awarded her ninth Top 10 trophy at last year (her first in eight years), that coveted ATF status is still out of reach as she’s not on this year’s list.

  Other noticeable omissions from the Top 40 are Heartland Heroes Bonnie Loo and James Seah. Also, Ayden Sng, Ian Fang, Jeffrey Xu, and Star Search 2019 winner Zhang Zetong. In fact, none of the Star Search 2019 Top 12 have managed to snag a nomination. And Bonnie Loo, in fact, won her first Top 10 trophy last year.

  Online voting for the Top 20 will commence here on March 11, 12pm and end on April 24, 8pm.

  The Walk Of Fame will be from 5pm - 6.30pm, on meWATCH, Ch 8, Ch U, and Mediacorp Entertainment YouTube Channel on the same day.
