Trailer Watch: Guardians Of The Galaxy Kidnap Kevin Bacon In Holiday Special

Come November, Kevin Bacon becomes part of the MCU.

Everyone in the Marvel Cinematic Universe can now play a game of Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon.

Marvel Studios just dropped the trailer for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, premiering on Disney+ on Nov 25.

Like the recent horror-themed Werewolf by Night, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is another standalone released under Marvel Studio’s Special Presentation banner, set to premiere on Disney+ on Nov 25.

The Christmas special sees the Guardians of the Galaxy trying to cheer up a heartbroken Peter Quill aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), still reeling from the loss of Gamora (Zoe Saldana) in the events of Avengers: Endgame. Drax (Dave Bautista) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff) figure the best way to brighten up his day is to get him the perfect Christmas present — Hollywood actor Kevin Bacon (Kevin Bacon as himself). And by ‘get’, they mean ‘kidnap’. High jinks ensue.

In the first Guardians of the Galaxy, we learnt that Peter’s all-time favourite movie was Footloose, where “a great hero, named Kevin Bacon, teaches an entire city full of people with sticks up their butts that, dancing, well, is the greatest thing there is.”

Bacon himself is no stranger to Marvel: he played the power-absorbing villain Sebastian Shaw in 2011’s X-Men: First Class (which is not part of the MCU canon). Bacon also worked with Guardians director James Gunn on the 2010 indie vigilante comedy Super.

Gunn, who is behind the Holiday Special as well as the three Guardians movies, was recently appointed alongside Aquaman producer Peter Safran as co-chairmen and co-CEOs of DC Studios, a newly-minted shingle that will oversee DC properties (film, TV, and animation) for Warner Bros Discovery. Per reports, both are expected to continue work on other projects outside of DC. Gunn helmed last year’s The Suicide Squad and its spin-off series, the John Cena-led Peacemaker.

Can we expect crossovers between Marvel and DC under Gunn’s watch? (Imagine The Punisher having a pow-wow with Batman or Doctor Strange and Dr Fate playing mind games…hmmm). But that’s another story for another time.

After the Holiday Special, fans have to wait till May 4 for The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 to open in cinemas. Watch the Holiday Special trailer here:
