TVB Actor Lam King Kong, 51, Owns A Tangerine Orchard In China & Is Called The “King of Mandarin Orange Peels”

King Kong’s orchard reportedly produces 800,000kg of fruit a year. Yes, that’s a lot of oranges.

Guess launching a simple F&B biz or fashion brand was too mainstream for Hongkong actor Lam King Kong, 51, whom some of you may remember as the guy who became Golden Pillow star Alex Man’s ‘disciple’ a few months ago .

While we’re not entirely sure what this whole ‘disciple’ thing entails, Alex, 64, seems to have the golden touch when it comes to taking younger stars under his wing, having mentored the likes of Stephen Chow, Gordon Lam, and Philip Keung in the past.

And now, his latest protégé is enjoying bountiful success as well, albeit not in the showbiz.

Faced with limited opportunities and a low salary at TVB, King Kong decided to head to China, where he has acted in online movies, performed on stage, and even become an agricultural boss.

Yup, according to Hongkong media reports, King Kong opened his own 33-acre tangerine orchard in the Xinhui district a few years ago, and it’s been a very, um, fruitful venture indeed — it’s said that the land yields up to 800,000kg of produce a year.

That is a lot of oranges.

King Kong recently filmed videos of himself giving a tour of his very lush garden, where each tree appeared to be dripping with fruit.

While the tangerines were still small, green, and unripe when he showed them to the camera, he explained that in two months, they will grow and turn into a bold orange hue, after which they can also be used to make tea and chen pi (dried mandarin orange peels).

In addition to the orchard itself, King Kong also owns a store that sells agricultural products and chen pi.

Another shot shows the warehouse where crates of chen pi are stacked almost to the ceiling. It’s been noted that these products can get even more valuable over time like fine wine, so we can only imagine how loaded King Kong’s gonna get (or probably already is).

King Kong, a former policeman, joined TVB in 1994 but was often stuck playing villains and other supporting characters.

Earlier this year, at the filming commencement ceremony for his new film Chuang Ye Da Ying Jia (literally “Entrepreneurship Winner”), King Kong suddenly knelt down in front of Alex and asked to become his ‘disciple’.

Alex gave his new apprentice a stack of money and the new name of “Lin Ben”, and declared: “If TVB doesn’t support you, I will support you!”
