US Vogue mistakes Chinese idol Cai Xu Kun for Jackson Wang at Met Gala

According to a TikToker, the Chinese singer was misidentified at least five times by various news outlets.

This year's Met Gala, one of the world’s most prestigious fashion events,  featured a number of Asian celebs on the red carpet.

Some of the A-listers spotted include Oscar winner Michelle YeohBlackpink’s Jennie, and The Glory star Song Hye Kyo, the latter two making their Met Gala debut.

Also attending his first Met Gala was Chinese idol Cai Xukun, 24, who shot to fame after taking part in 2017 talent search Idol Producer.

The singer showed up in a crystal-embellished look from Prada. He also held a folding fan, in line with the Gala's theme 'Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty'. The late fashion designer was always seen with a fan.

However, it was not Xukun’s OOTD that went viral online.

Instead of naming Xukun in their post, US Vogue, which organises the event, mistook him for Jackson Wang, tagging the latter in its Instagram video of Xukun’s appearance on the red carpet.

Oops The real Jackson Wang (pictured below) was also at the Met Gala and he showed up in an all-black ensemble from Louis Vuitton as well as Lagerfeld’s signature accessories: shades and gloves.

Vogue's faux pas angered fans of both stars, and they flooded the Internet with comments like "Can you do your homework?", "So disrespectful to Jackson Wang and Cai Xukun. Fix this, Vogue!” and “Please learn their names and no, Asians don’t all look the same”.

Vogue corrected the mistake 20 minutes later.

Sadly, that wasn't the only time Xukun was mistaken for someone else at the Met Gala.

According to TikToker @krealitygrace, Xukun was called the wrong name at least five times by news outlets like USA Today and GQ Mexico.

Some of the stars he was mistaken for include BTS’ Jimin and Chinese actor Leon Lai Yi.
