Wang Lei Says Liu Ling Ling Will Always Pay The Bill Whenever They Go Out… And They Have Been Friends For 25 Years

In a recent episode of Mediacorp's bite-sized entertainment and lifestyle series #JustSwipeLah, veteran getai performers Wang Lei, 60, and Liu Ling Ling, 59, try their hand at arcade games for the first time.

And of course, the duo, who have known each other for 25 years and “have a combined age of 120”, had seriously funny tea to spill about each other

Seriously, the duo's hilarious interaction with each other is comedy gold

Like this one, where Wang Lei compared Ling Ling to video game character Chun Li’s… mom, thanks to her hairstyle. 

Or like how Ling Ling revealed that Wang Lei used to volunteer to drink every time some one made a toast at their getai shows just so headlines the next day would scream “Wang Lei’s drunk again”.

A very, very generous friend

Of course, it wasn't all about ribbing each other.

When asked if there's something the other party has done that “made you feel that he or she is a friend worth making", Wang Lei said: “I’ve known Liu Ling Ling for 25 years, and up till now, wherever we go out to eat, play or drink, she will always pay the bill.”

Seriously, for all outings?

“My father mentioned before that if you can afford to pay, it means you are doing okay in your life. Money doesn’t mean anything,” said Ling Ling. 

So what if he's foul-mouthed?

And as for the one thing Wang Lei has done that felt like a show of true friendship, Ling Ling earnestly revealed how Wang Lei had gone out of his way to help three of his students perform in a getai show when they contacted him at the last minute to share that they had no gigs that night.

“I think that a mentor like this is very kind-hearted and treats [everyone] equally well,” Ling Ling said.

“You make it sound like I’m a celestial being who descended on Earth,” Wang Lei joked in response, with Ling Ling replying in mock horror: “You?! Full of vulgarities, [and] a celestial being?”

An actual workout

So how did they actually fare when trying out the arcade games? 

“This is more exhausting than being on the getai stage,” Wang Lei gasped halfway through their first challenge.
