Just like how Zhang Yimou has his ‘Mou Girls’ and Stephen Chow has his ‘Sing Girls’, Hongkong director Wong Jing has his own list of muses called ‘Jing Girls’. This term is used to describe young ingénues who get propelled to prominence after working with renowned directors.

While the most famous ‘Jing Girl’ is arguably Chingmy Yau, who went from girl next door to sex bomb thanks to Wong Jing’s Naked Killer, there’s another ‘Jing Girl’ who was also known for her beauty but unfortunately saw her showbiz journey cut short after a brush with the law: Suki Kwan, 55.

After taking part in the 1987 Miss Hong Kong pageant, Suki, a former dance teacher, made her film acting debut with a small part in Wong Jing’s The Romancing Star.

She also joined TVB and appeared in many productions. However, her career never really took off and she eventually moved to another company, where she started taking on more movies, usually as a “sexy” supporting character.

Her big break finally came after starring alongside Simon Yam in 1995’s Twist, a Category III flick that featured her flaunting her bodacious bod in revealing outfits.

In addition to becoming the object of lust for numerous male fans, Suki was also invited to sign on as an artiste under Wong Jing’s company and went on to collaborate with him in numerous projects such as A True Mob Story, Century of the Dragon, A Gambler’s Story, and more.

She was even nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the 1998 Golden Horse Awards for her role in Your Place or Mine, but just four years later, she fell from grace.

In 2002, Suki got into a minor car accident while she was at the wheel, but she swapped seats with her male friend, who then claimed that he was the one driving instead.

She was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and sentenced to two weeks’ jail for obstruction of justice the following year. After she was released, Suki took a break from acting and later made her comeback in 2005’s Colour of the Loyalty, but her level of popularity was never the same as before.

Suki completely quit showbiz in 2006 after completing filming for Chinese drama series Bao Yu Li Hua.

Since then, Suki has been enjoying an ordinary, low-key life and is rarely photographed in public. According to reports, she spends most of her time volunteering and is in a secure financial situation thanks to her investments and her boyfriend’s notable family background.

The latest paparazzi photos of Suki were published in March this year, leading the media to gush about how well she has maintained her youthful looks and slender figure after all these years.
