Yvonne Lim Arranges Surprise Set Visit From Vivian Hsu For Cast And Crew Of Strike Gold, Says She's "Very Touched" Vivian Kept Her Word From Months Ago

Can we be friends with Yvonne and Vivian too?

The cast and crew of upcoming Mediacorp drama Strike Gold had a very special guest on set today (Oct 12): Taiwanese star Vivian Hsu, 41, who is based in Singapore with her family.

How did that even happen?

Well, it's all thanks to the star of Strike Gold Yvonne Lim, 46, who happens to be really good friends with Vivian.

When 8days.sg reached out to Taiwan-based Yvonne, who is back in town to shoot the Mediacorp drama, she shared that she arranged for this surprise visit as she knew that the rest of the cast are all fans of Vivian. (We mean, who isn't?!)

"They told me that they really like Vivian 'cos they know I’m friends with her. People like Desmond Tan and He Yingying, they all like her, and I made sure she would visit at a time where they were all on set."

Yvonne also shared that even though the cast and crew were "super happy" to get to meet Vivian, "when she arrived they all became very “guai” and shy (laughs)."

According to Yvonne, the surprise visit was something Vivian casually brought up months ago.

"She mentioned before that she’d visit me on set but it was a long time ago, even before she went back to Taipei for her concert. But when she returned, I didn’t expect her to remember. When she asked me [if she could come on set], I was quite surprised and it meant a lot to me," said Yvonne.

She added that she was very touched that Vivian had "kept her word".

"'She’s a goddess to a lot of people," gushed Yvonne. "Especially to our cameraman. When we got him to take a photo with her, he turned red like a lobster, okay? It was so funny! Even his ears were red, it was so cute to see how shy everyone was [around her]".

Yvonne went on to share that she waited for Hong Huifang to return from the Busan International Film Festival before arranging the visit.

"Previously, Huifang-jie helped drop off something at Vivian’s house in Singapore for her to bring back to Taipei for me, so Vivian recognises her. When Huifang-jie was nominated [for Best Actress at the Golden Horse Awards], Vivian asked me “The big sister that sent something over to my house that time, is she [the one who got] nominated for Golden Horse?” said Yvonne.

"That’s why I thought it’d be nice to do it when Huifang-jie was around. And Vivian did go and congratulate her so Huifang-jie was very happy."

Everyone got to meet Vivian, except...

But not everyone was lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the star.

Like Yao Wenlong, who wasn't on set today.

"Wenlong was very sad lor. But I did tell him that there might be a visit from Vivian 'cos I was worried he’d think why wasn’t he included. I asked if he wanted to come earlier but I think he had something on. He did come on set later in the day, that’s how I managed to get this picture of him looking so disappointed (laughs)."

Wenlong wasn't the only actor who was super envious of the cast and crew of Strike Gold.  Shaun Chen left a comment on Yvonne's post, lamenting: "Why didn't you ask me along?"

"Yah a lot of people really like her and they all said, “Why didn’t you invite me” but 'cos they’re not in our show (laughs). It’s a set visit. She can’t visit the whole Mediacorp, right?" laughs Yvonne.
