Elijah was born on May 23 and he’s Alaric’s and his wife’s first child. Alaric is sleep-deprived but thrilled with the new addition to his family.
“In my opinion he is just one handsome dude,” the Noose funnyman gushed. “My wife says he looks like me but I’m like, ‘Really? I can’t tell.’ I’m that way – when my friends ask me, ‘Does this baby look like the father or mother?’ I can never give a good answer. Same thing with my own baby. But everybody claims he looks like me. So, yeah, cool. I think he’s really good looking.”
It’s too soon to tell if the kid will have his dad’s comedic talents, but 34-year-old Alaric said: “He does have some of my habits. For example, he sleeps like me. I like to have my hands support my head when I sleep. And he always has either one or both hands to his face when he sleeps. It’s very weird DNA. And he’s full of expressions when he sleeps. Sometimes he laughs, so you know he’s dreaming, but you’re like, ‘What could possibly make a baby laugh?’ When he’s awake he doesn’t laugh – not yet at least. And he frowns and he raises one eyebrow. I’m like, ‘I couldn’t do that ‘till I was 12.’”
Fatherhood is taking a while to get used to, but Alaric is enjoying it thoroughly. “Every single waking moment is surreal – even changing diapers and all that,” he said. “I thought, ‘When I become a father, I’ll be really good at changing diapers.’ And I’m doing pretty good, I must say. During ante-natal classes I was quite eager to practice with the dummy and quite eager to learn. But it’s not the same with a live, kicking and wailing baby. When the baby’s kicking you’ve got its hands and feet to manage, and on top of that, the wailing just puts pressure on you. So you’ve just got to learn how to breathe and keep calm and do the work. This morning I had my first taste of a firing squad. If you’ve never had a firing squad, you should try nappy changing.”
The devoted dad is still filming once a week, but he said: “Two hours back at work, I already want to come home. So that says a lot, I think… The feeling of being a parent is irreplaceable and just a wonderful feeling. I think it’s a gift to have a child… I want to savour every waking moment of it.”
Well, when your kid’s this cute, who can blame him?
