Singapore's very own Dance Central champions were crowned yesterday at the finals of Singapore's first Dance Central Championships 2012. Held yesterday at Plaza Singapura, the event saw 28-year-old Sarah Dane Camongol take home the title in the singles category, while the junior category was won by 11-year-old Raimiel Carreon. Dary Seah,21, and Hoo Xun Lin, 20, were crowned champions in the doubles category. It was double joy for Sarah Dane Camongol as she also took home the title of Ultimate Dance Central Champion, scoring the highest points dancing to the LMFAO hit Party Rock Anthem - the surprise song of the competition.

The event was held in conjunction with the launch of Kinect Star Wars in Singapore - but while a few booths were set up for interested gamers to become jedi, all eyes were on the stage where dancers busted their moves and showed off how good they were at the ultra-popular Kinect-based Xbox 360 game, Dance Central 2.

Sarah Dane Camongol took home over S$2,000 in sponsored premiums, a huge trophy and a gold medal on top of S$2,000 cash for being both ultimate and solo champion. The other champions took home S$1,000 each, together with gold medals, while the the first and second runner-ups in each category took home medals and cash ranging from S$200 to S$500.

The crowd goes wild at Dance Central Championships 2012 With qualifiers taking place over the past 8 weeks in places like 313 Somerset and the IT Show, competition was tough as finalists had to score almost perfect scores just get to the next round - scoring the already hard-to-get gold stars within Dance Central 2 was insufficient to qualify for the semi-finals.  Nonetheless, these Dance Central fanatics showed those of us with two left feet how easy it was to look amazing while dancing in front of a television.

With over 1,000 Singaporeans having taken part (looking at the scores, yours truly decided not to take part - maybe if they'd chosen Sandstorm I might have stood a chance), the event was a success, especially with the grand way it ended. The crowds were thick and more than willing to give the game a go even when the competition itself wasn't on - and it looks like more than a few families went home with a new game to play. The crowd thickened as the finals went on, many of them even lining the upper floors just to get a peek at the finals. And given the talent on show throughout the week and at other satellite qualifying events - even from those who did not qualify for the finals, I'd have to say that Dance Central 2 will continue to get more popular - here's hoping for Dance Central 3, and the next Singapore Dance Central Championships soon!
