SINGAPORE – French bank BNP Paribas today (March 7) launched its first Asia Pacific campus in Singapore, with the target of training up to 3,200 of its regional staff in a year.

The training facility is restored from two heritage buildings near Changi in a S$24 million project, and marks the bank’s ambition to bolster its regional presence and capabilities for further growth amid the recession in the European markets.

The bank hires around 1,800 people in Singapore, which is also its regional hub.

Speaking at the campus’ opening, Managing Director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore Ravi Menon noted BNP Paribas’ foresight to start investing in the facility three years ago during economic uncertainties.

He also stressed the hope for more financial institutions here to similarly invest in training and talent development, in order to nurture more Singaporeans for career opportunities in the fast growing financial industry.
