SINGAPORE — Twitter officially launched its Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore today (June 11) and will be adding more than 100 jobs to achieve a greater presence across the region, the company said in a media statement.

It plans to hire technical staff, including data analytics professionals, product specialists, engineering and technology support, to create a regional hub for live, digital innovations in Singapore.

Minister for Communications & Information Dr Yaacob Ibrahim attended the opening ceremony of Twitter’s Asia Pacific headquarters which was held today and tweeted about the launch with the hashtag #Home4Good.

“Happy to open @Twitter’s APAC HQ in #Singapore! Congrats @shaileshrao @alizaknox @parrysingh @TwitterSG! #Home4Good.”

Delivering a speech at the opening ceremony, Dr Yaacob said that Twitter’s move here reinforces Singapore’s attractiveness as a choice location for internet companies looking to access the Asia Pacific region.

Since its inception in 2006, Dr Yaacob noted how Twitter has grown and changed the social media landscape and is now among the most used social networks in the world.

Dr Yaacob also announced the opening of #Realtimelab in Singapore, which is a part of the Twitter office here. The social media centre is a first in the Asia Pacific region, he noted.

“The lab will include a new analytics team which will help gain a better understanding of social media and online information transactions in Asia,” he said.

Mr Shailesh Rao, Twitter’s Vice President of Asia Pacific said the Asia-Pacific region is one of the largest and fastest growing regions for Twitter today, and there’s still potential to grow.

He said: “We’re capitalising on this growth in 2015 by making strategic investments across the region – from opening new offices and aggressively hiring staff, to acquiring companies and building local product experiences.”
