About Time soundtrack (Various) | 2/5
SINGAPORE - About Time is a British rom-com, sci-fi film that narrates what happens when a young man tries to change his past to have a better future. Logically, that would mean including songs from different musical eras, which would usually mean an interesting soundtrack album. Sadly, that’s not the case here. The album includes a really mixed bag of songs: Jimmy Fontana’s Il Mondo (1965), The Cure’s Friday I’m In Love (1992), Groove Armada’s At The River (1997), t.A.T.u.’s All the Things She Said (2002) and The Killers’ Mr Brightside (2004). But not much by way of anything post-2010. Well, there are perfunctory covers of the Waterboys’ How Long Will I Love You by Jon Boden, Sam Sweeney, Ben Coleman and Ellie Goulding, and a pointless re-recording of The Luckiest from Ben Folds. But other than that, it’s slim pickings, I’m afraid.
