SINGAPORE – Singapore singer Alfred Sim is set to represent Singapore at the seventh Hong Kong Asian-Pop Music Festival (HKAMF).

Sim, 35, will perform and compete against regional artistes, including China’s Self-Portrait, Taiwan’s Yeh Bing Ham, Japan’s Hitomi Kaji, Korea’s Lydia Lee, Thailand’s Pannawach and Hong Kong’s Jocelyn chan, for the festival’s prestigious Asian Super Nova Award.

Local musician Gentle Bones, whose real name is Joel Tan, became the first Singaporean to win the Super Nova Award last year, after he beat artistes from seven other countries and territories.

“I am a bit nervous, but this is not my first overseas competition,” said Sim, who participated in Chinese reality singing competition The Voice Of China in 2015.

“I guess the challenge this time is probably to better my showmanship at this huge Asian platform.”

Sim also held his debut solo rock concert at the Esplanade Annexe Studio last month, and was selected to perform the theme song Rainbow In Our Hearts at this year’s Chingay Parade.

The annual event, which will be held this year on March 17 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, will also feature performances by Jocie Guo Mei Mei from Singapore, Jiang Dunhao from Mainland China, Nick Chou from Taiwan, Love Psychedelico from Japan, B1A4 from Korea, Joyce Chu from Malaysia and Hacken Lee from Hong Kong.
