Be the change we want to see: Nick Vujicic

SINGAPORE — Motivational speaker and evangelist Nick Vujicic swam with the sharks at the SEA Aquarium today (Sept 5), as he marked his seventh trip to Singapore.
Calling the SEA Aquarium his “best press conference setting ever” in Singapore, the Australian dived into the tank in the aquarium despite being born with tetra-amelia syndrome, which left him limbless.
“That was awesome, it felt like I was swimming with the sharks,” said Vujicic, adding that he wasn’t scared. “The most complicated bit was probably trying to get in and out of the water.”
Vujicic said he started swimming at the age of 6 because his dad encouraged him. “I think fear stops people from experiencing life,” said Vujicic.
For a man who says that he has 28,000 invitations to speak all over the world, what drives the new father — his son was born in February — is still the passion to share his story and change the world.
“I want to be thankful with what I have instead of being angry at what I don’t have,” said Vujicic. “We can all be a miracle for someone. If we want to change the world, we first need to change the nation we live in. If we want to change the nation, we need to be the change we want to see.”
“You don’t know how far your acts your generosity will go. I wouldn’t be here today if not for the help I received from ordinary Australians,” he added.
Vujicic is clear that what brought him through his rough childhood was prayer and family, saying that his parents were “parents of faith”. And now as a motivational speaker, limbs aren’t the foremost on Vujicic’s mind.
“I don’t want arms and legs, I want purpose,” he said.
