TODAY spoke with Dai’s China manager Alex Liu, who revealed that Dai and Chen were first introduced to each other by him, as both of them are his artistes. “They get along very well, you won’t think that there’s a big age-gap at all. Dai is very mature and manly, too, while Chen is girlish at heart,” said Liu.
In a phone interview with TODAY, Dai said he chose to get married today, as the date, May 19, is a meaningful one. (It translates to "wo yao jiu" or "I want eternity".) The couple had been thinking of tying the knot for a while as well, he shared. And they took a month to plan for this. He's also excited for life as a married man and hopes to become a father soon. "We hope we can share good news and become parents soon, " he said, adding that it's time as he's no longer young. "My family is also eager for us to start our own family."
Earlier, Dai had also issued a statement via his manager saying: “I’m grateful to all the viewers, fans and media in Singapore for their love and support. Now that I’m entering a new stage of my life, I will work harder.”
The couple has announced that they hope to hold their wedding ceremony at the end of the year, either in November or December. Dai, who’s best known here for his turn in The Little Nyonya as a Japanese soldier, left Singapore in 2011, in search of greener pastures in China. He had initially struggled to get roles but finally hit his stride two years ago. His latest project was the Hollywood production Lost In The Pacific, which premiered in China earlier this year. It also stars Superman Returns star Brandon Routh and Chinese actress Zhang Yuqi.
