Rozz leaves 987FM after 8 years on air

SINGAPORE — Radio deejay Rosalyn Lee is leaving 987FM after some eight years with the popular MediaCorp radio station. She will be moving to Lush 99.5FM, and will host The Evening Lush radio show from 5pm to 9pm daily, starting next Monday (Jan 6).

SINGAPORE — Singapore radio deejay Rosalyn Lee is leaving 987FM after some eight years with the popular MediaCorp radio station. She will be moving to Lush 99.5FM, and will host The Evening Lush radio show from 5pm to 9pm daily, starting next Monday (Jan 6).

Rosalyn said she chose to move to Lush 99.5FM, as it represents a new opportunity for her to grow, adding that she also wanted be part of a new plan to better define Lush 99.5FM’s personality this year and make it more appealing to listeners who are “interested in culture and art, and discovering new music”.

“We (Lush 99.5FM) represent the subculture, we represent the alternative,” she said. “We’re going to play like music from The Roots’ era, going to hear Pearl Jam, The Strokes, like really good sh** that you won’t hear on any radio station in Singapore!”

GOING SOLO

While Lee admitted that she is a little “terrified” about the move, pointing out that it will be “a challenge” to help grow Lush 99.5FM’s reach, she expressed that this may be a good thing.

“At 34, I am feeling fired up again. I feel alive! I have to work doubly hard. You’re trying to rebuild a station from scratch,” said Lee. “Hopefully, I can make a difference.”

Helming The Evening Lush also represents the first time Lee, who had previously been paired with Shan Wee and Bobby Tonelli, will be hosting a show without a partner for the first time since she joined MediaCorp years ago.

And Lee said she is looking forward to getting a taste of solitude in the radio studio.

“Even when I was with Shan, I wanted to try going solo. In my personal life, I am single, and I intend to remain single,” she said. “I enjoy my own company. I am more free-spirited this way. I am happier. I hope that same positive vibe translates to my radio show!”

MAKING A CHANGE

Lee is just one of the many 987FM deejays involved in a radio reshuffle that will go into effect from Monday.

Tonelli, who hosted 987FM’s breakfast show with Lee, will be moving to Class 95FM and will host the station’s Love Songs radio show each night from 8pm to 12am.

Sonia Chew and Joakim Gomez will take over as the hosts of 987FM’s The Wake Up Call from 6am to 10am.

Kimberly Wang will host 987FM’s “The Hit List” from 12pm to 4pm.

That’s really quite a bit of change for 987FM this year. However, Lee believes change is good.

“True, it won’t be the same again,” said Lee, commenting on what 987FM will be like after her departure.

“But it doesn’t mean it won’t be good!” CHANNEL NEWSASIA
