SINGAPORE — Pop rock band The 1975 is set to play at St Jerome’s Laneway Festival Singapore 2016, event organisers have announced.
The band, whose members comprise vocalist and guitarist Matthew Healy, guitarist and keyboardist Adam Hann, drummer George Daniel and bassist Ross MacDonald, are set to perform at The Meadow at Gardens By The Bay on Jan 30.
Formed in 2002 when they were only teenagers, the indie outfit dropped their first of four EPs in 2012, which they followed with their debut album in 2013, and quickly garnered a loyal following with hits such as Chocolate, Girls and Sex. And fans will not need to wait long for their new release, titled I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It, which is slated to drop in February.
The 1975 joins a Laneway line-up that includes Scottish electronic band Chvrches, experimental pop artiste Grimes, indie pop duo Purity Ring and indie darling Tobias Jesso Jr, who co-wrote Adele’s latest hit When We Were Young (all from Canada) and American experimental rock band Battles.
Singaporean acts Riot !n Magenta, Intriguant and Cashew Chemists will also take the stage at the popular indie music festival, which sold out last year and is on its sixth edition in Singapore.
“We have been blown away by The 1975’s meteoric rise,” said Danny Rogers, the festival’s co-founder. “As an independent band, they have taken the world by storm with smart anthemic pop. Their latest single Love Me is probably my favourite song, and when we realised that we had one spare slot and that the band were very interested in being part of the bill ... we just thought that they completed our line-up.”
Laneway Festival Singapore 2016 will be held at The Meadow at The Gardens By The Bay on Saturday, Jan 30. Tickets at S$180 are available at SISTIC. More details on the full line-up can be found at http://singapore.lanewayfestival.com.
