You may not believe it, but it has taken two decades for Miriam Yeung to hold a concert in Singapore.
The popular Hong Kong singer-actress, known for her roles in movies such as Love In The Buff and Sound Of Colors, will hold her Let’s Begin 2015 concert come Oct 31 at Resorts World Singapore. While she is understandably excited, it’s a prospect that is daunting, too.
“It’s not my first time in Singapore, but it is my first concert in Singapore, so I am quite excited! But I will have to speak in Mandarin, and it isn’t a language that I am very fluent in. But I will work hard to convey what I feel to the audience,” said Yeung.
She arrives in Singapore at the tail end of a fairly eventful year. The 41-year-old, who marks 20 years in showbiz this year, surprised many when she agreed to participate in Chinese reality television series The Amazing Race 2 with her singer-turned-PR manager husband, Real Ting. Describing herself as an “adventurous person” who loves getting out of her comfort zone, Yeung said her experience on The Amazing Race 2 was “unforgettable”.
“It was very tiring, but also meaningful, because it gave my husband and I new perspectives. We now also understand each other a little better,” said Yeung, who got married in 2009. “Normally, when we spend time with each other, we base our actions on our feelings for each other. During the show, however, we had a common goal. I got to see what he’s like when he’s at work, and he got to see a side of me that he doesn’t usually see.”
Yeung was also injured when she was hit by a charging bull while completing one of the tasks on the game show in Spain.
“Even though we had a few small accidents that were quite scary, the next time we do a show, we will be careful. You can’t stay away from new adventures because of accidents, so we just learn from the experience,” she said.
The singer, who is currently also working on a new Cantonese album, says she hopes to take a break from work after wrapping up her concert tour to spend time with her three-year-old son Torres — who may or may not tag along on her work trip to Singapore.
“Torres has seen my concerts. I think he’s still young, so he can’t quite digest what his mother is doing yet. But, I think he likes watching the singing and dancing,” the Cantopop star said. “He loves music, and when he listens to music, he remembers the melody very quickly, and he starts dancing, too. I guess it’s all thanks to prenatal education.”
Miriam Yeung’s Let’s Begin 2015 concert will be held on Oct 31, 8pm at Resorts World Theatre, Resorts World Sentosa. Tickets from S$118 to S$238 available from SISTIC.
