The Muppet Movie (Original Soundtrack) | 3/5
SINGAPORE - In 1979, The Muppet Movie, the first every full-length feature starring Jim Henson’s most lovable creations from TV’s The Muppet Show - Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo, Rolf, Scooter, et al - was released. Now, 34 years later, they’ve released the “Nearly 35th Anniversary Edition” edition of the movie soundtrack. Truth be told, this one’s strictly for Muppet lovers, because they can listen to the original version of Rainbow Connection, as sung by Kermit (or should we say, Jim Henson) once again. That by the way, is the strongest track on the album, although other memorable tunes include galloping Movin’ Right Along (by Kermit and Fozzie) and the funky Can You Picture That (by Dr Teeth & The Electric Mayhem). The other songs, though beautifully-written by Paul Williams and Kenny Ascher, just can’t stand on their own and the novelty does wear thin.
