Music notes: The one-line album review

A | AGNETHA FALTSKOG. She was one of the “A”s in Abba, and on this, her first album in yonks, her voice still hasn’t faded, the songs suit her tone well, and it’s an all-round pleasant outing - like taking tea with grandma. 3/5

SIDE EFFECTS OF YOU | FANTASIA. It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Fantasia, and this offering is, for some reason, rather melodramatic and rhythmically annoying, but one can’t really fault her vocal performance much. 3/5

SPITFIRE | LEANN RIMES. Country fans who like Leann Rimes will definitely like this album because it ticks all the boxes as far as country music tropes go - as for the rest, we’ll just have to accept the fact that we can’t appreciate it. 2.5/5

BOMBSHELL | SOUNDTRACK. Those who like Katharine McPhee and Smash will definitely like this soundtrack because it ticks all the boxes as far as musicals done with TV in mind go - as for the rest, we’ll just have to ... ah, you know the rest. 3/5

A REASON TO SWIM | JOE BROOKS. Mr Brooks sounds like one earnest singer-songwriter on this six-track mini-album, and it’s no bad thing, because this is the sort of thing that world ought to listen to - because it’s good. 3.5/5
