SINGAPORE – Bii, Dino Lee and Ian Chen are the sort of boys who turn heads when they enter a room.
The trio were in town to promote their album, Unstoppable 3-Epochal Times. No, they’re not an official group like how One Direction is an official group; but they are young, easy on the eye and pretty – almost to a fault.
And yes, the three Mandopop singers have amassed a sizable group of screaming teenage fans that has only grown since they took turns to star in some wildly popular television shows this year: Bii was in the romantic comedy Bromance; while Lee and Chen were in the wildly popular Taiwanese movie Our Times.
While they may not be jealous of each other’s success, Bii admitted that he has made some interesting observations about their fans. “Dino has very enthusiastic fans. Their faces turn red when they see him and they keep shouting his name. They are also younger,” Bii said at a press conference today at The Fullerton Hotel. “Ian’s fans are quieter and more cool. My fans are quieter and more shy too, they are quite well-behaved.”
Although their solo careers keep them relatively busy, work commitments like their trips to Singapore allow them to spend more time with each other - an opportunity the boys clearly relish.
During the press conference, Bii, Chen and Lee took turns to make quips about each other, even as the two younger singers sang their senior’s praises. “Bii takes very good care of us. He gives us advice about our work, and is a very good role model to us,” Lee said.
Chen agreed, saying that Bii always offers his help when he thinks it’s necessary.
“They must have squeezed those compliments out,” interjected Bii.
“Dino and I have changed Bii. He used to be a little more melancholy, more silent,” Chen said. “But we don’t really care very much about image so we keep spoiling things for him. Now I think he’s more expressive and more open.”
It should come as no surprise, therefore, that if the three boys ever star in the same show together, Bii thinks it should be a comedy. “I think it would be quite suitable. There are many such comedies in Korea that appeal to the younger generation but also the older generation,” the Korean-Taiwanese star said, ignoring Chen’s suggestion that he should act as their father.
“As long as the three of us are together it will be a comedy,” Lee laughed.
Bii, Dino Lee and Ian Chen will be holding their autograph session at 4pm on Sunday, Dec 6 at Eastpoint Mall, Main Atrium.
