SINGAPORE - It took weeks of effort and hard work, but in a televised grand finals earlier tonight (March 1), it was Kayly Loh who finally won the MediaCorp Channel 5 talent search, aptly titled, The 5 Search.

She beat four other competitors - Shrey Bhargava, Michelle Wong, Caryn Cheng and Aiken Chia - to walk away with the S$30,000 cash prize as well as a two-year Artiste Management contract with MediaCorp. Kayly will also star in the upcoming Channel 5 drama, Tanglin.

“I’m speechless right now,” she said as her family and supporters cheered. “I’m very thankful, my heart is so full. I have such as strong support (from) family and my friends. I’m really very thankful!”

Award-winning actress Rebecca Lim presented her with the trophy and Lim said: “I’m extremely excited for you and I know your future is going to be so bright. Welcome to the family.”

Hosted by Jean Danker, the two-hour show saw the final five contestants doing their all as they acted, danced and sang in order to win the votes of the five judges - resident judges Tay Ping Hui, Bryan Wong and Selena Tan as well as guest judges Georgina Chang and film-maker Eric Khoo - as well as swing the public votes their way (public voting closed at 9.35pm).

Other performers during the show included a reunited cast of The Noose - Michelle Chong, Chua Enlai, Suhaimi Yusof, Judee Tan and Alaric Tay - as well as American pop singer Secondhand Serenade who performed two songs - Heart Stops and Fall For You - while the contestants waited anxiously for the results. The results were a combination of judges’ scores and public votes.

Fans took to the online platforms, including the Channel 5 Facebook page, to offer congratulations. “All done well, came so far, congrats to the finalists n winner,” posted Jason Tan.
